New York state has been giving households in the area using wells around 50 to 60 gallons of water a month, according to Peppenelli. Until then, Vernon residents have been doing what they can to deal with their water problems – filters, softeners and more. Salka added that he and the help of Oneida County Legislator Keith Schiebel will be working on the application process for more grants. “This community deserves good, clean water at an adequate supply.”Ī $50,000 grant has already been secured, Salka said, and there’s still more money out there that can be acquired to fund the cost of a new water district. “You should, as tax-paying property owners, have quality water,” Salka said. “I thought I had bad water while I was living in Utica. ![]() “We’ve got a multitude of chemical problems, as well as the smell,” Peppenelli said.
